A Little About Me

My name is Rachel and I am a plant lover and an avid gardener. I've been gardening for over 25 years, starting with a little patch of wild strawberries I cultivated in my parents front yard when I was four. Now I am a PhD researcher at Michigan State University studying plants and plant diseases. On the side, I breed fun plants (mostly vegetables), and garden an empty lot near my house and raised beds in my backyard.

This blog is a compilation of information, resources and anecdotes for the modern urban gardener in Michigan and the Midwest. Some will be personal experience, some will be from published research, and some things are just fun and interesting science stuff. I hope you enjoy it!

If you have garden questions feel free to email me cityscapesandgardengates@gmail.com and I'll do my best to answer it or find someone who can answer it!
